Microsoft Copilot: A Whole New Way to Work with AI

If you are looking for a way to boost your productivity, creativity, and skills at work, you might want to check out Microsoft Copilot, a new feature that combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your data and the Microsoft 365 apps.

Microsoft Copilot is your copilot for work, helping you to do things you’ve never been able to do before with natural language prompts.

What is Microsoft Copilot?

Microsoft Copilot is an AI-powered assistant that works alongside you in the Microsoft 365 apps you use every day, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. It uses LLMs to understand your intent and generate relevant and actionable responses based on your data in the Microsoft Graph, which includes your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and contacts.

It is more than just OpenAI’s ChatGPT integrated into Microsoft Apps. In their own words, Microsoft Copilot is an orchestration engine that works behind the scenes to combine the power of Large Language Models (LLMs), like GPT-4, with your enterprise data in Microsoft 365, securely.

Microsoft Copilot can help you to:

  • Generate better content, faster: Copilot in Microsoft Word can help you speed up your writing process. You can quickly generate a draft based on a simple prompt in seconds. It can also help you rewrite, summarize and review what you have written. While working on your next PowerPoint presentation, Copilot can help you create professional looking presentations that are based on your data. Based on your audience, or the purpose of your presentation, Copilot can help set the tone as well. In Excel, the backbone of enterprise data analysis, Copilot becomes a saviour – you can generate analysis and charts from data by using simple prompts in natural language, in seconds.

  • Enhance your productivity: With Copilot in Outlook, you can save time and effort by letting it compose emails, schedule meetings, and follow up on tasks. With Copilot in Teams, you can collaborate more effectively by letting it generate meeting agendas, summaries, action items, and status updates. You can also ask it questions and get answers from your data or the web.

  • Upgrade your skills: With Copilot in Excel, you can analyze data faster and easier by letting it create charts, formulas, and insights. You can also learn new skills by asking it how to do something or getting suggestions on best practices. With Copilot in Business Chat, you can have a natural conversation with it across all your data and apps. You can give it commands like “Tell my team how we updated the product strategy” or “Create a budget proposal for next quarter” and it will do the work for you.

How to get started with Microsoft Copilot?

Microsoft Copilot is currently available in an invitation-only paid preview program for 600 enterprise customers worldwide. To use Copilot, your organization must meet some technical requirements and have some features enabled. You can learn more about how to prepare for Copilot on the Microsoft 365 Adoption website.

Microsoft Copilot is also powered by the Semantic Index for Copilot, a new capability in Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 that creates a sophisticated map of your user and company data. The Semantic Index for Copilot enhances the relevance and accuracy of Copilot’s responses as well as enterprise search results.
